My approach, first and foremost, is this: story is everything. I believe in the power of stories. I enjoy the challenge of engaging with each world as it’s own unique narrative, drawing upon different aspects of my musical personality and imagination. What kind of world do you want to build? Who are your characters and what motivates them, what scares them, what’s in their way? What themes do you want to explore? Who is the audience that you’re trying to connect with? These are some of the details that inform my compositional approach.
Musically, while I love to delve into traditional and lush orchestral arrangements, as well adding contemporary elements such as guitars, vocals, and electronic layers, I never want to give more than the story needs. It is genre dependent, and I embrace the style of musical themes that each genre calls upon, but in general, I don’t want the audience to notice my music. I want it to help engross them in your story.
I work along side you with an open and easy communication style, making sure that the tone is just right, and allowing your film to engage the viewer on an emotional level, only achievable with music. If your aim is to tell a story with heart, mine is to help you reach others, and to help add another touch of beauty to this world.
